Contingency Fee
A contingency fee is a fee arrangement in which the attorney's payment is contingent upon the successful resolution of the case. If the attorney does not win the case, the client owes no attorney fees.
How It Works
Under a contingency fee agreement, the attorney agrees to represent the client in exchange for a percentage of the recovery — typically between 33% and 40% of the total settlement or verdict. This percentage may vary depending on whether the case settles before trial or goes to verdict.
Benefits for Clients
Contingency fees allow injured individuals to access high-quality legal representation without having to pay anything upfront. This levels the playing field against insurance companies and well-funded defendants who might otherwise outspend an individual plaintiff.
